How IELTS test dates work in India
IELTS on Paper uses fixed dates. IDP says paper testing can run up to four times a month, while IELTS on Computer can be available up to three times a day, seven days a week. That does not mean every city offers every session: the live options change with the test centre, module and remaining capacity.
The official city-by-city page showed 25 July, 6 August and 22 August 2026 as common upcoming paper dates across many Indian locations when this guide was updated. Some cities showed fewer options. Computer sessions were more frequent, so use the live booking screen when you need a particular weekday or a shorter wait.
- Choose Academic or General Training before comparing dates
- Select IELTS for UKVI only when the receiving route requires it
- Check both computer and paper availability in your city
- Treat the live registration screen as the final source of seat availability

Book through the official IDP India flow
Start on the official IDP IELTS India dates page and select the test type, format and city. The results shown after those choices are more useful than a general calendar because they represent the sessions offered for that combination.
Complete the registration with the same personal details and identity document you will use for the test. Review the selected module, city, date and fee before payment. Save the confirmation message and return to the candidate portal if you need to check your Speaking slot or test-day details.
- Confirm the test accepted by your university, employer or visa route
- Choose Academic or General Training
- Choose the required UKVI or non-UKVI version
- Select a city, format and available date
- Check personal details and the final fee before payment
- Save the booking confirmation
Your Speaking test may use a different appointment
The Listening, Reading and Writing sections are scheduled together, but the Speaking test may take place before or after that date. IDP provides a separate Speaking-slot selection step where available, and the confirmed appointment should be checked in your candidate account.
Do not build travel plans from the main test date alone. Read the full confirmation, especially when you are travelling to another city, and allow for the possibility that the Speaking appointment is on a different day or at a different time.
Choose a date from the deadline backwards
Write down the date by which the receiving organisation must have your result. Then leave room for the official result process, score delivery and a possible retake. A test date can look early enough on a calendar and still leave no recovery time if one skill misses a required minimum.
Book only after a timed diagnostic shows where you stand. If the gap is small, a focused preparation block may be enough. If Writing or Speaking is well below the required band, a later date with time for feedback is usually more useful than the first available seat.
