Check whether you qualify before looking for a code
College Board’s program serves low-income students in grades 11 and 12 in the United States or its territories, as well as eligible U.S. citizens abroad. Qualifying circumstances include certain school-meal or income criteria, public assistance and other conditions listed on its eligibility page.
Studying outside the United States does not by itself establish eligibility. Read the official criteria and discuss your situation with a counselor before planning your registration around a waiver.
Choose the counselor or direct-request route
A school counselor can check eligibility and provide a code. College Board also offers a direct request form for eligible U.S. residents; eligible U.S. citizens living abroad should obtain a code through a counselor.
For a direct request, allow at least one to two weeks before the registration deadline and have an adult available to verify eligibility if contacted. Check your email for the decision. This lead time is a planning allowance, not a guarantee of approval.

Apply your benefits in My SAT
If you receive a code, enter it on the My SAT dashboard or during registration. If College Board approves your direct request, the benefits appear in your account without a code. Confirm that your benefits are visible before completing registration.
For the 2026–27 school year, active codes begin with FW26. This prefix identifies the school year; it is not a complete code that anyone can redeem.
If your code is not accepted
Check for typing errors and extra spaces, then confirm with your counselor that the code is current and unused. If it has expired or was already used, ask for help instead of repeatedly submitting it. Students cannot obtain a fresh set of benefits simply because the existing allowance has been used up.

Keep a short registration checklist
Write down your registration deadline, the date you requested help and where to check the response. Once your benefits are visible, return to the normal registration steps and save the confirmation. This keeps a pending request from being mistaken for a completed test booking.
